The recent Kobe earthquake caused serious damage to some steel bridge piers. But it was found out that the steel bridge piers which had filled-in concrete in their column bases were less damaged than those with no filled-in concrete. It's considered that filled-in concrete increases seismic performance of steel bridge piers. In this research, we examine the effect of filled-in concrete on seismic overall behavior of steel bridge piers. We investigate the relation between the height of filled-in concrete and the ductility of steel bridge piers.
