A certain class of verbs utilizes a complement clause to express a certain state of mind. Negative Transportation (NT), which has been considered a syntactic rule, preposes the negative element in the complement into its matrix clause: this preposed element actually negates the lower clause. The argumentation by NT is, however, too syntactic; it does not take its semantic aspects into account. For instance, some properties of the predicates are sensitive to NT and there is a differece in meaning between the original and the generated sentences. The purpose of this paper is to throw a light on the NT phenomenon from a semantic point of view. It argues that a predicate which triggers NT is nonfactive and takes "so" as a proform of its complement clause.
