Correlation and composite analyses were conducted of April snow cover extent over Central Eurasia, 500hPa geopotential height and 850 hPa geopotential height over the Northern Hemisphere, and all India monsoon rainfall (AIMR) for 1973-1998. Results suggest that in April, large (small) snow cover are related to the zonal (meridional) flow that brings less (more) warm advection from the southwest to the region, and the enhanced (weakened) subtropical high over Arabian Peninsula south of Central Eurasian region. During the monsoon period (June to September), the positive (negative) anomaly over the subtropical high which is the eastern periphery of Azores High remains along with the northward seasonal migration, when April snow is large (small). This positive (negative) anomaly over India leads to suppress (enhance) monsoon low and results in weak (strong) AIMR.
