To examine the effects of CO_2 concentration and temperature on the growth of peanuts, this study was carried out by the use of naturally-lit phytotron. (1) High CO_2 concentration promoted the growth of stems and leaves and especially leaf area, but its effect on roots was obscure in the case of a variety Chiba-handachi. (2) Under high CO_2 and temperature conditions, plant growth slowed down with decreasing day length and amount of solar radiation. (3) Generally, the growth rate was high under high CO_2 and temperature conditions and the effect of high CO_2 could be noticed even at moderate temperature. (4) Under high CO_2 and temperature conditions the rate of photosynthesis of Chiba-handachi, a Virginia type, increased, while those of Valencia and Spanish types did not.
