This paper deals with the shape of dent produced by grit blasting and describes on the comparison of the calculated results with experimental results in order to clarify the characteristics of grit blasting. This paper is based on these assumptions such as ; plastic deformation occurs only in the work material, and impact angle is normal. Following conclusions are obtained: (1) Shape of grit can be classified by rank which expresses the number of plane elements and the shape of dents can be calculated by using such factors. (2) The number of planes are less in a large size grit. (3) The index on the material hardness, grit size and velocity of grit in the formulas is agree with the results on the diameter and the depth of dent produced by shot peening. (4) In case of rank 0 grit, if the flow stress is taken with 1.6 times of the Vickers hardness of work material, the calculated values agree well with the experimental values for dent size and depth of dent.
