This paper presents the seismic structural response control, especially of high rise frames by Active Mass Damper, using "Optimal Control Theory (Optimum Regulator Theory)". The vibration characteristics of the high rise structure and the control efects of AMD were examined from various control parameters. The Active Mass Damper usually installed on an uppermost story of buildings. However, considering the vibration of higher mode due to shoks of earthquake, the sesmic response with AMD installed the middle story were also examined. High rise steel structures of 30 stories were taken up as a model for the research. The seismic response control structure to set up AMD in an uppermost story or the middle story was composed of this basic model (uncontrolled structure) and the frequency transfer function was led as a solution of the Difference Equation. The effective control parameters in vibration characteristics and the effect of control was considered by using the frequency transfer functions. Moreover, the effect of seismic respoonse control structure on the maximum response values (accelerations, displacements, etc.) was replaced with a equivalent modal damping of uncontrolled structure.
