Odakyu Electric Railway Inc. (OER) is well known as one of the major private railway companies in the Tokyo metropolitan area. Since its establishment in 1927, this company has given tremendous amount of contributions to the residential developments along its line. With their efforts, there exists several unique residential communities surrounding each of the OER stations. There also exist some critical issues caused by the extraordinarily high density of population and buildings in these communities, such as the invasion of commercial facilities into the old residential districts. Recently, the OER is mainly engaged in the painful task to double the track-width and to renovate the related districts along the line. This survey focused on the characteristic issues in each of the unique station-communities, in order to create certain frameworks for their renovative processes. The survey was executed in the typical three major station-communities of the OER (Kyodo, Seijogakuenmae, Ebina), capturing the communities' towns-capes, their historical backgrounds, and the future masterplans shown by the public sectors. Referring to these surveys, three realistic architectural projects were proposed to articulate the various planning issues in the renovative developments in these communities.
