The nonlinear equation that describes the function of transistor networks is largely simplified if the network is divided into sections viewed from transistor ports. This simplified equation, in turn, makes the circuit design easy and intuitive by the use of the graphical analysis. Derivation of equation proceeds as follows: first, the given network is divided into three section, i. e, the port circuits consisting of transistors and diodes, the connections between the ports and the tree circuit that connects the ports to the ground. Then, combining the equations for the three sections leads to the desired network equation of which the independent variable is the emitter (collector) current alone. The equation has a coefficient 1 for the nonlinear term which expresses diode characteristics and which has the merit of finding readily the desired values of emitter currents. For an illustrating example, derivation of the equation for the d.c. analysis of the feed-back type direct-coupled amplifier is given.
