A basic system suitable for representing and manipulating computable entities is proposed. How to represent computable entities is the fundamental problem of non-numerical computations. The basic system proposed in this paper is based on Functional Data Structure devised by the authors, and has the following features: (1) to be very simple in its structure, (2) to be sufficient to build up the suitable model or representation of a mass of computable entities with itself, (3) to have the function to facilitate information retrieval, (4) to be easy to generate, delete and combine the structural units, (5) to be easy to refer to all the associate units in connection with a certain structural unit, (6) to be generally accepted. These features make the basic system very simple. The system also makes it possible for the user to handle FORTRAN and LISP programs in the same program.
