This paper analyzes the sound structure of British English from the standpoint of comparative articulatory phonetics, comparing RP (Received Pronunciation) with GAS (General American Speech). It is influenced by lectures heard at University College London (UCL) and the ideas of the International Phonetics Association (IPA), in particular the ideas of Daniel Jones. The cultural diversity of British culture has also formed this paper.
