Low temperature oxidation of the synthetic titanomagnetite xFe_2TiO_4・(1-x) Fe_3O_4 where x is 0.6 and 0.75, was investigated magnetically over the temperature ranges from 200℃ to 400℃. There was not much difference between the magnetic properties of the oxidation products heat-treated in the air and those in the water-vapour flowing atmosphere. Neither wet-grinding effects of the minerals in the water-poured nor those in aceton-poured mortar makes the significant difference on the magnetic properties. The maghemization of the titanomagnetite was only dependent on the oxygen fugacity, and the wet-grinding only faciliated the reaction. From the observed increase-rate of the saturation magnetization against the temperature, 0.07〜0.03 emu/gr deg, the distribution of the vacancy and the other ions in the cubic spinel titanomaghemite structure was deduced as follows, [numerical formula], where y denotes the amount of the oxygen atoms to oxidize the one mole titanomagnetite.
