A sensor electrode consisting of polypyrrole membrane was made investigation into a flow-type electrochemical sensor for the selective detection of aliphatic amines. The polypyrrole membrane was composed of 40% polypyrrole and 60% polyvinyl chloride. The membrane was applied to a sensor electrode. A silver-silver chloride electrode was used as a reference electrode. These electrodes were incorporated within a flow-type detection cell. Testing substances chosen for the characteristic elucidation of the flow-type electrochemical sensor were aliphatic amines such as methylamine, ethylamine, n-propylamine, n-butylamine and n-pentylamine. The potential changes of the sensor electrode were measured with a digital multimeter and taken into a personal computer through a GPIB interface. We have found certain characteristics of the flow-type sensor as the response dependence of the electrochemical sensor for aliphatic amines.
