The purpose of the present study was to extract the rhythmical patterns from the investigation of the expressive movements as to four parts of the body. The expressive movements feeling 'light and soft', 'heavy and soft', 'sharp' and 'violent' were chosen from the movements which were suggested in "The Course of Study for Primary Schools" revised in 1977. The investigation revealed the following results : 1) As to the movements feeling 'light and soft', the feeling being expressed with knees, syncopation and accent were often used, when expressed with hands the smooth and quick rhythmical pattern was found, and when expressed with the whole body the upper part of the body felt soft and the lower libms did light. 2) As to the movements feeling 'heavy and soft', the rhythmical pattern expressed with each part of the body was similar. 3) As to the movements feeling 'violent', the rhythmical pattern expressed with knees only or with hands only was simple and intermittently, while in the case expressed with knees and heels the accent was added to the rhythmical pattern. 4) As to the movements feeling 'sharp', when expressed with hands the rhythm was short and quick, but when expressed with other part of the body the simple and slow rhythm was found in common. The above-mentioned results seems to reveal that there is a rhythmical pattern easy to be expressed with each part of the body. And it is expected that the characteristics of these rhythmical patterns should be accurately comprehended by teachers and the knowledge should be applied to the teaching of the expressive movements practically.
