In Asian Countries, development has been achieved to a certain degree. While some countries, for example, Japan, Republic of Korea, Singapore have been highly developed, many countries have been struggled against poverty. When the World Assembly on Aging was held in Vienna in 1982, 'aging in developing countries' was treated as one of the arising problems in the near future. From now developing countries are going to face two problems to solve, i.e., development and aging. Regarding to the relationship between development and aging, there is one hypothesis proposed by Donald O. Cowgill that modernization, by which means introduction of modern health technology and modern economic technology, urbanization, and increase of education, tend to diminish the status of the aged. This study analyzes the development and the aging trends in Asian 22 countries using the data by the World Bank, United Nations, UNESCO. From the viewpoint of the degree of development, Asian countries can be devided into 3 groups, which show differences in the aging trends of the future. Asian countries are developing by and large, but it is not sure that development itself will change the Asian tradition that people respect the aged and that the aged are taken good care of by their families.
