• This paper summarizes present state of anaerobic digestion (AD) technology on municipal solid waste (MSW). There are few studies similar to this paper, so information presented here is very useful for engineers and/or decision-makers in municipalities. This paper features (1) concepts and fundamentals of some engineered systems, (2) system components of MSW-AD, and (3) typical installations in Europe, which author have investigated so far. Finally, it is pointed out that more detailed and whole assessment of existing MSW-AD plants is urgent matter for future dissemination of this technology.
