• This paper considers the problem of influences of the Bomb on Hiroshima Buddhist temples and is based on a questionnaire which I put to temples in Hiroshima in 2003. More than 100 temples were completely destroyed by the force of the blast or in the ensuing fires. Much damage was inflicted on objects, including Buddhist images, buildings, gravestones and on human beings. Injuries and deaths to countless parishioners of the temples were a severe obstacle to the reconstruction of these temples. The destructive results of the Bomb disrupted regular practice at the temples from just after the bombing until the present day. In researching this project, it was necessary to look at the destroyed temples as a microcosm of Hiroshima itself.
