This paper described the innovative Japanese secondary science teachers in terms of their age, sex, attitude, self-perception and attitude toward the four foci of innovations namely, instructional materials, content, student activities and teaching methods. This study can serve in benchmarking for innovative science teachers and to find out their innovations in the classroom. The study made use of quantitative method of gathering data and analysis. This made use of attitude scale in characterizing the teachers. The study found out that the Japanese innovative teachers have favorable behavior, self-perception and attitude toward all foci of innovations. Peak stage of innovativeness usually occurs at age 35-45 between 30-49. Creativity, resourcefulness, awareness and flexibility are the traits of innovative teachers. These traits and characteristics should be developed in science teachers' pre-service and in-service programs.
