The Japanese economy has recently started to show bright signs after many years of negative growth after the collapsing of the bubble, has recently started to show bright signs. However, conditions of the traditional labor intensive industry still remain behind the scenes. I, the author, have been engaged in research and trend survey of textile industries upon the request by the Local Government and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of south Osaka. I have also participated in countermeasures for it During the investigation the reality of the local industry have become apparent: it has been going through a lot of hardships with enormous difficulties. Main issues are deteriorating competitiveness caused by bottom priced products from low-wage countries, and loss of sales due to decline of local wholesale business caused by the revolution of distribution patterns where production and sales are directly connected. In order to address the problem, we need to develop an "Only One (Unique)", and cultivate its market. In addition to this, it is also necessary to implement belt-tightening measures to achieve independent autonomous management. In recent years, customers are searching not merely for low-priced products, but also for value-added products. Under such circumstances, I believe that there is a chance for rebirth in the lacal economy. In my research, I focus on the revitalization of the local economy, and the collaboration between industry and academia.
