This study evaluated the effectiveness of education in interpersonal support skill for the promotion of personality maturation of the supported provided as a college class of basic nursing. A questionnaire based on a 110-item scale of the basic ability to form human relationships was performed before and after lectures and practical training in 65 third-year students. The answers of 52 students who responded to the questionnaire both before and after the lectures and practical training were analyzed. Significant differences were observed in "communication ability", "ability to honestly express oneself", "consideration for others based on understanding" and "sensitivity to the feelings of others" concerning the lectures, "positive attitude toward involvement" concerning the practical training, and "belief in being able to understand each other", "ability to harmonize oneself with others", and "community consciousness" concerning both the lectures and practical training. These results suggest that different skills are developed through lectures and practical training and that some skills are developed only through both lectures and practical training.
