2-Arm, 3-arm and 4-arm telomers were synthesized by telomerization of 6-[4-(4'methoxyphenylazo)-phenoxy] hexylmethacrylate, MAB6Mc with benzenedimethanethiols, trimethylolpropane tris (2-mercaptoacetate), and pentaerythritol tetrakis (3-mercaptopropionate), respectively in the presence of AIBN as initiator. The telomers were characterized by GPC, NMR, IR, DSC and polarizing optical microscopy. The hydrolysis of 3-arm and 4-arm telomers yielded hydrolyzed products with significant reductions in molecular weights. A comparative study of their thermal and photochemical behaviors was carried out. The telomers showed reversible photoisomerization in both solutions and in the films.
