The study was done in Lagos between 1^<st> June and 31^<st> December, 2003. Four hundred and forty women who had had a previous termination of pregnancy completed the questionnaire. The mean age of these women was 31.1±7.8 years and the mean parity was 1.87±2.0. Almost 85% of them were single when they terminated their first pregnancy. The mean age at first coitus was 17.7±2.4 years while the mean age at which they terminated their first pregnancy was 28.1±4.8 years. Among the providers 64.8% were non-gynaecologist doctors. The contraceptive prevalence among them was 21.7%. There was a positive correlation between the age at first intercourse and the number of pregnancy terminated (r^^20.06).
