There are close relations between street pattern and traffic accident at housing estates. Two main factors affect street pattern. Those are the date of land development and whether planning-permission system controlled the housing estate plan or not. The following is several specific results that we made clear after research. ● The 90 percent incidence of traffic accidents occurs at intersections in housing estates. ● The 90 percent traffic accidents are collisions between two cars. ● By comparison between crossroads and T-shaped intersections, the incidence of traffic accidents at the crossroads is 6, 7 times more than the incidence at T -shaped intersections ● Main street patterns of old date land developments are gridiron patterns. Especially many narrow streets exist at housing estate out of control of planning-permission system. Those developments are dangerous for daily living environment. ● Main street patterns of recent land developments have T-shaped intersections ; therefore the ratio of the incident of traffic accident is low. Especially using loops and cul-de-sacs, those developments have safety and comfort for daily living environment.
