This study was to compare family dynamics and selected psycho-socio-demog-raphicfactors between Japanese families who lived in the United States and in Japan. The data were collected from 161 participants who lived in major cities of eastern states (US Japanese family) and 195 participants who lived in outskirts of Tokyo (Japan family). The participants were convenience sample. Family dynamics showed more positive tendencies by US Japanese families. Five dimensions of Family Dynamics Measure (FDM II) were significant (p<.05) between the groups of two countries. Mental status was found non-significance between the groups of two countries and the groups of genders. Japan family seemed to have somewhat bigger family size than US Japanese family(mean=3.66, SD=1.42 versus mean=3.15, SD=1.05). US Japanese family had higher marriage rate (95%) with less children (60%) in contrast to the Japan family, 84.6%, 65.6%, respectively. Higher rate of illness among Japan family and higher rate of problem/changes among US Japanese family were reported. An understanding of family differences among families could be helpful not to stereotype/group into just one nationality category, Japanese. These findings would help nurses. To. Understand .differences in family dynamics and some selected characteristics of Japanese families in US and in Japan.
