In this paper, we consider the "ordinary" and "disordinary" forms of a funeral rites in Okinawa. This consideration is themetized by the social problems of Hansen-disease in Okinawa. Our study will aim to clarify a roots of funeral rites in the case of Hansen-disease in Okinawa. In this paper, however, our purposes restricts to clarify the .distinction between the "ordinary" and "disordinary" funeral rites. In chapter 1, we discuss the realities of the "ordinary funeral rites", from the case of Ginoza village which seems to be a typical case in Okinawa. The ordinary funeral rites usually applied to the died person in my home. Because that this rites was a formal in her/his home village, the peoples were forced to take part in this ceremony. In chapter 2, we discuss the realities of the "disordinary funeral rites" from the view of the local history in Okinawa. The "disordinary funeral rites" usually applied to the person who died from accidents or in the outside of home-world. Because that this rites was an informal at her/his home village, the peoples were forced to neglect this ceremony ritually. The objects of "disordinary rites" inclueded not only a sacred people but also an outcast. In spite of the "disordinary funeral rites" had some anomic properties, it had a nomic one, because that it presupposed a "ordinary funeral rites". In chapter 3, we show the hypothesis the discription of funeral rites in the ethnographies in Okinawa presuppose a mixture between an ancestor worship at a 19-20 century and Senkotsu-rites at 14-15 century and Buddism at 13 century. So, we can not immediately draw a origin of "disordinary funeral rites" from the ethnographies in Okinawa.Further, we face to another difficulty, which is the relationship and similarity between the funeral rites of a infant and of a Hansen-disease's dead person. Our study is imposed on two diffculties, but from these points our further investigation develop.
