With the continuing changes in the paradigm of social welfare, people increasingly have high expectations of social work and question its actual value. Now is the time to break free from trial-and-error practice depending on only "speculation and knowledge based on experience" and to embark on a scientific approach. Hence, there are the challenging tasks of thoroughly examining fundamental theories and projects, and developing content and procedures. The only possible perspective and conception for resolving these tasks is the practice and conceptualization of "General Social Work Theory" as a comprehensive theory and the "Ecosystems project" employed with the computer-aided tool entitled "Eco Scanner". The progress of the "Ecosystems project" will enable practical development via the participation and cooperation of users and social workers, and help users to solve problems and improve, reconstruct, maintain, or improve their lives from a scientific perspective. The scientific approach of social work must be pursued from a comprehensive perspective via an accumulation of practical scientific developments and feedback.
