Recent study demonstrated that Ku70 is involved in not only DNA double-strand break repair and V(D)J recombination but also tumor development. In the course of analyzing the Ku70 gene for mutations in colorectal cancer, we identified a novel, rare polymorphism, an "AT" deletion in the 3'-untranslated region, and analyzed its allelic frequencies in Japanese patients with colorectal cancer and healthy individuals. The allelic frequencies were 0.026 and 0.027, respectively. No significant difference was observed between them; however, this polymorphism will be useful for genetic studies not only of cancers but also of autoimmune disorders.
