In this paper, the three-dimensional models of divergent and convergent flows of non-Newtonian fluids in non-Archimedes spiral discs which are the core components in disc extruders, are studied by investigating the melting, mixing and flow mechanisms of a disc extruder. The distributions of velocity, pressure and viscosity in the gap between revolving and stationary discs were obtained by applying the commercial finite element analysis software-ANSYS. At the same time, the influence of disc configuration parameters and operational conditions on the flow field were investigated. The preliminary investigations provide not only a theoretical basis for application and serial development of this type of equipment, but are also an important reference for the study of kneading technology and theory in related disciplines.
