Transchlorination of ο-dichlorobenzene (ο-DCB) between benzene over palladium (II) chloride supported on activated charcoal was performed under various conditions. The pretreatment of the activated charcoal by alkali-acid washing or boiling water did not contribute to the elevation in catalytic activity. The catalytic activity was revitalized, when it used for the transchlorination again, after the used catalyst was extracted with benzene. This is considered to be due to accumulation of compounds having high boiling point such as biphenyls and terphenyls into catalyst. It was suggested that hydrogen donors such as 1-hexene, 2-hexene, and cyclohexene were effective in dechlorination of ο-DCB. It was confirmed by computer simulation that the transchlorination of ο-DCB between benzene was an equilibrium reaction.
