In spite of recent remarkable advances in study of ancient human skeletal remains, the importance of this field is not sufficiently acknowledged among the biologists and public societies in Asian countries. Major information available from anthropological studies on these materials is introduced, together with an outline of collection management in the Department of Anthropology, National Science Museum, Tokyo.
