Joint researches on the fauna of northern Vietnam were made by the National Science Museum, Tokyo, and Hanoi Agricultural University from 1994 to 1999 with collaboration of the Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources, Hanoi. The insect biodiversity in northern Vietnam is introduced, with special reference to the mimicry complex of diurnal insects, which involves not only patterns of their maculation but also their behaviour, e.g., wasps-longhorn beetles-sessiid moths, etc.; carpenter bees-Sataspes moths-sessiid moths-bumble bees; cicadas-diurnal moth complex of Noctuidae, Geometridae, Epicopeiidae and Zygaenidae; cockroaches-alderflies (Megaloptera)-zygaenid moths, etc.; Euploea butterflies and mimics; Delias butterflies and mimics.
