• The present paper reports 12 genera and 30 shrimp species of Subfamily Pontoniinae, from Hainan Island, South China Sea, collected by the Chinese-Japanese cooperative expedition to the island in 1997,and separated from the collection of Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IOCAS). In which, 10 species are recorded here for the first time from Chinese water, they are : Coralliocaris venusta Kemp, 1922,Dasycaris ceratops Holthuis, 1952,Harpiliopsis spinigera (Ortmann, 1890), Ischnopontonia lophos (Barnard, 1962), Palaemonella pottsi (Borradaile, 1915), Palaemonella spinulata Yokoya, 1936,Periclimenes affinis (Zehntner, 1894), Periclimenes diversipes Kemp, 1922,Periclimenes imperator Bruce, 1967,and Periclimenes seychellensis Borradaile, 1915. The materials studied here are all deposited in IOCAS.
