The National Museum of the Philippines holds a total of over 100,000 crustacean specimens, 90% of which were acquired through the efforts of the National Museum staff and the crustacean curator, and 10% were acquired through donations and exchange. The assigned tasks of collecting, identifying, recording, storage and maintenance were solely done by the crustacean curator for the past years. It is only recently that a technical assistant was assigned to her that makes her task a lot easier. This gives her more time to identify the accumulating crustacean collections. Space allotted for curatorial work is not a problem. However, the need for facilities such as air-conditioning unit to regulate drastic changes in temperature to prevent deterioration of the crustacean collections, a microscope with camera lucida attachment, preservatives and storage facilities improvement were discussed. The need to focus on research and collection building were emphasized together with the need for financial support.
