Sixteen molars of Mimomys panacaensis from the type locality in Nevada were chosen to examine their enamel microstructure by scanning electron microscope. The schmelzmuster of this species is charatcterized by two-layerd radial enamel on the leading edge, and primitive tangential enamel plus a radial enamel layer on the trailing edge. This structure is comparable to that of primitive European Mimomys, and thus supports the hypothesis that Mimomys panacaensis was an immigrant from Eurasia not showing the derived conditions of other American lineages.
