Surface exposures of lacustrine beds in the Beaver basin, Utah, were sampled over a stratigraphic interval of 30 meters to establish a magnetic polarity stratigraphy. Three dated ashes occur at the sample locality and range in age from 2.22 Ma for the lowest (Indian Creek) ash bed to 2.10 Ma for the highest (Huckleberry Ridge) ash bed. A normal polarity interval was found, bounded above and below by beds of reversed polarity, and between 2.19 and 2.10 Ma in age : this normal polarity zone is interpreted to be the Reunion II Subchron. The Reunion I Subchron, if present, is below the lowest exposures sampled, and based on radioisotopic dating of the Indian Creek ash bed, has an upper boundary older than 2.22 Ma.
