At this point in time the average life expectancy and healthy life expectancy in Japan are the highest in the world. Due to this fact the Japanese medical system is recognized as among the upper class of World Health Organization (WHO) participating countries. Medical information systems tend to advance at a slower rate than healthcare needs therefore it is desirable to reform the organization system to prepare for the future. This paper investigates the present trends of the medical information systems and proposes a future medical model for constructing a network between hospitals by an electronic medical report (KARTE). This model can improve the efficiency and accuracy of patient care processes such as informed consent. Both nations and healthcare providers should be working hand in hand in pursuit of a progressive medical information system that enables and encourages co-operation between medical institutions.
