Hypothesis : A checklist of skills for primary education of nurses and a manager's training improve the acquisition of learning skill in first-year operating room nurses. Materials and Methods : The acquisition of surgical nursing skills was examined in first-year nurses by means of instructor and self-examination using a technical checklist and psychological evaluation. Results : The scores in both self-evaluation and instructor' evaluation using the technical checklist were higher in the second than in the first evaluation, but Yatabe-Guilford's psychological test of the nurses at the first evaluation gave results similar to those at the second evaluation in both the freshmen and instructors. Conclusion : The stress of learning promoted acquisition of techniques, even though the stress did not cause marked psychological changes in the fresh operating room nurses.
