A generalized solution of levitation control, applicable to the PM (Permanent Magnet) rotating motor, has been obtained. It is assumed that the rotor has sinusoidally distributed magnetic poles, while the stator has a current sheet to produce arbitrarily distributed magnetic flux. The levitation force can be independently controlled using the proposed PM^2 (Plus Minus two) pole algorithm. A simple experimental apparatus is constructed and tested to clarify the validity of the proposed method.
