The newly-developed tilter method was used to measure the linear birefringence behaviour of (NH_3C_3H_7)_2MnCl_4 in the temperature range between 50K and 300K. The birefringence along the (010) direction was measured for the first time. We observed the δ-ε and ε-ξ phase transitions in birefringence behaviour. It is shown that the tilter method can measure the birefringence along the direction normal to the incident laser beam.
