Stress applied by mechanical polishing processes to the surface of 4'-Nitrobenzylidene-3-Ethylcarbonylamino-4-Methoxyaniline (MNBA-Et) single crystals has been measured using laser Raman spectroscopy. It has been proved that the position shift of the MNBA-Et Raman spectrum around 1580cm^<-1> originating from the phenyl ring increases linearly with increasing the stress applied to MNBA-Et. Stress applied by the polishing process is proportional to the surface roughness of MNBA-Et, however, the applied stress is determined to be about 390 MPa independent of relation to the surface roughness of each polished MNBA-Et single crystal.
