The objective of this paper is to present a mobile healthcare decision support tool in the form of an off-site computer-based system that aids in the detection of tumors or lesions in medical images. Firstly, a two-step wavelet-based technique is proposed, which detects and eliminates textual data in image scan, so as to protect confidentiality and enable data privacy. Then, a simplified process that requires relatively low computational effort to detect tumors in image scans is developed, by focusing on the connection between the spatial pixel values and tumor properties using three parameters : edge (E), gray (G), and contrast (H) values. The methods proposed here will enable medical specialists to transmit image scans for detection and screening through a user-friendly and robust system. Measurements of MRI, Ultrasound, SPECT-Tc99m, and mammography scans have been performed. Experimental results have illustrated that our proposed conceptually simple off-site system is able to effectively detect abnormalities such as tumors on text-eliminated image scans delivered from another geographically distant internet-connected location.
