A "Diorama Engine" has been one of the major development programs at Creative Lab., Tokyo University of Technology since 1999. It started as a tool for creating storyboards using already modeled and stored 3D characters. This was designed to increase efficiency on Anime production. It then was connected with one of functions of a Scenario Engine which is another important development program at Creative Lab. The purpose of integrating two functions is to use Diorama Engine as a pre-visualization tool not only for Anime production, but also for live video production. This is called a "Mise-en-scene Engine". Mise-en-scene is a French word meaning "Directing the scene". In this paper, we explain our original concept of Diorama Engine and a newly added function from Scenario Engine, thus creating Mise-en-scene Engine. Then we explain how the test production of an Anime production was conducted with a good result, and then, a series of test usages for simulation purpose of live video production. Mise-en-scene Engine will open a new track for pre-visualization of content production to cut time and to increase quality by newly proposed simulation method called "Digital Production Assistance."
