Elastic Anisotropy of Single Crystalline P[VDF/TrFE]Copolymer Films with 75/25 Mol Ratio

The in-plane elastic anisotropy of hypersonic sound velocities in single crystalline P[VDF/TrFE]copolymer films with 75/25 mol ratio have been studied by Brillouin light scattering in the ferroelectric phase at room temperature. Both as-grown and poled films give an identical anisotropy. To analyze the anisotropy, orientations of the ferroelectric domains with respect to the film coordinate are discussed using a Landau free-energy. We analyzed the in-plane anisotropy applying the individual domain(IDD)model and the effective elastic constant(EEC)model. A complete set of the crystallographic elastic constants was deduced for the IDD model. The EEC model gives four EECs, C^E_<11> C^E_<33> C^E_<44> and C^E_<13> . Both models can successfully reproduce the observed anisotropy.
