This study examines variations in the use of cognitive and metacognitive learning strategies used during CALL and the effects on oral production outcomes after CALL and classroom instruction. Oral post tests for two case subjects were analyzed for accuracy, relevance to lesson topics, and fluency. CALL use was also analyzed using history files created automatically by a tracking function in the program. It was apparent that the subject who used more effective learning strategies during CALL also demonstrated greater improvement on the oral posttest. The author suggests that learners would benefit from strategy training specifically related to the use of CALL programs.
