The aim of this study was to evaluate the vinegar obtained from Moso bamboo (Phyllostachys heterocycla) , as a fungi resistant agent using the vacuum process, for treating bamboo-based products. The intent was to use this by-product to increase the value-added part of the products, and at the same time provide a substitute for the current use of fungicides, in order to reduce environmental pollution. The speciments used were Moso bamboo that had been processed with either the carbonizing or the streaming process. Exposure to fungi from the air for 30min and four strains of experimental fungi were used, including Aspergillus moger, Mucor sp.,Penicillum sp., and Trichoderma viride. From the results obtained, it was evident that the fungi resistance of the molds on the bamboo surface increased with the increased uptake of the bamboo vineger, as measured by time period of vacuum and imoregnation, and the C/N ratio of fungi inoculated bamboo power was increased as well. The FTIR analysis showed that when the bamboos were treated with the vacuum process at 60 min of vacuum period and 240min of impregnation time, no functional groups of the fungal chemical compounds, at 1654cm[-1] (C=O) and 1552cm[-1](N-H), were found after 70 days. From this it was concluded that bamboo vineger is useful to restrain the models and that it can decrease microbiological deterioration of bamboo materials.
