Altitudinal distribution and seasonal occurrences of carabid beetles in Mt. Yamizo, an intermediate-temperate mountain in northern Kanto, were studied using baited pitfall traps. While individual abundance decreased with increasing altitude, species diversity increased at higher study sites. Vegetational conditions seemed to determine the species diversities. Principal component analysis divided ground beetle species into five groups with respect to either attitudinal distribution or seasonal occurrences.
