The chiral phase transition of finite temperature QCD is investigated in the ladder approximated exact (Wilson) renormalization group (ERG). The gluon thermal mass is incorporated using the hard thermal loop (HTL) approximation. We calculate a critical temperature T_c, a critical exponent υ, and order parameters, such as the chiral condensate (ψ^^-ψ) and pion decay constants, with this approximation. The dependences of the pion decay constants on an unphysical parameter are improved significantly by including contributions from momentum dependent vertices. The critical temperature is found to be T_c≈124 MeV for 3 flavors. It is shown that the critical temperature depends strongly on the approximation scheme used for the gluon thermal mass term. We also calculate the temperature dependence of the chiral condensate, π decay constants, and the pion velocity.
