The nest temperature of a mature (producing reproductives) colony of Vespa simillima xanthoptera (CAMERON) located in Central Japan was recorded over a period of 17 days. V. s. xanthoptera was able to maintain a constant nest temperature of 29℃. The nest temperature was independent of the ambient temperature, and when the ambient temperature fell below 0℃ differences between the ambient temperature and that in the nest was up to 32℃.
