The characteristic of using underground spaces through nearly all stages in Schrankia costaestrigalis (STEPHENS) is reported for the first time. This species is recorded as a pest of Vicia faba L. (Leguminosae) which is cultivated on 3-10 cm diameter blocks of grey lowland soil in Tanegashima Is., Japan. The biology, immature stages and adult are described.
