A new eye-color variant in the melon fly Bactrocera cucurbitae was described. This had purple eyes without luster. Results of crossing experiments showed that the difference in eye color between the wild type and purple eyes was governed by a single locus and that the mutant allele of the purple eye color was partially dominant to the wild type.
