Shisa excellens STRAND, 1917, hitherto known as a member of the Lymantriidae, is considered to be a senior synonym of Ratarda tertia STRAND, 1917, whose male is recorded for the first time. A redescription of the moth is given, with notes on its relationship to the other genera of the Ratardidae, Callosiope HERING, 1925, and Sumatratarda KOBES et RONKAY, 1990. The family Ratardidae is considered to be closely related to the Metarbelidae of the superfamily Cossoidea.
